La conclusione della storia del maggiore Hugh Ballard e della sua missione nella Langhe piemontesi. L'inverno è ormai alle spalle ed è tempo, finalmente, di contrattaccare. I partigiani sono numerosi, ben organizzati e molto agguerriti. Dopo un ultimo tentativo nemico di spezzare la Resistenza, le bande passano all'offensiva, scatenando la battaglia per liberare numerosi città del Piemonte meridionale e chiudere le forze nazi-fasciste in una sacca.
